As a wedding photographer in Devon, I’ve had the privilege of capturing some truly unforgettable moments across lots of stunning venues around the South West, and the wedding I photographed at Rockbeare Manor this Summer is one that stands out as a picture-perfect celebration of love.
Rockbeare Manor, with its breathtaking Georgian architecture, grand interiors, and lush grounds, offers a dreamlike setting for any couple’s big day. August brings the manor’s gardens to life, with vibrant blooms and golden light casting a romantic glow over the entire venue. This wedding had all the elements for a magical day: the beautiful Lucy & Don (the gorgeous bride and groom!), stunning weather, and the perfect balance of elegance, and joy.
The Venue: A Timeless Setting
The grandeur of Rockbeare Manor never fails to impress, and in the heart of summer, it was nothing short of spectacular. The ceremony was held in the stunning Drawing Room, where sunlight streamed through the tall windows, illuminating every heartfelt vow. For photographers, natural light is a gift, and the soft, warm tones of the room provided the ideal backdrop for those tender, intimate shots.
Post-ceremony, the newlyweds and their guests made their way to the beautiful gardens for drinks and canapés. The lush greenery of Rockbeare’s sprawling lawns framed the group shots perfectly, while the manor’s façade added a timeless elegance to the couple’s portraits.
Capturing the Details
No detail was overlooked at this wedding. From the delicate design of the bride’s gown to the elegant white rose floral arrangements that adorned both the ceremony and reception spaces, each element was thoughtfully chosen. As a photographer, I always make it a priority to capture these meaningful touches. I spent time photographing the intricate details of Lucy & Don's rings, the texture of the bridal bouquet, and the personalised décor that made this wedding unique.
The soft pastels and natural tones of the décor blended seamlessly with the surrounding landscape, adding to the overall sense of harmony to the gallery. In my photos, I wanted to ensure that these details were preserved as part of the couple’s story, as they’ll become cherished memories in years to come. I want my couples to look back and remember the setting of their day, it all helps to show the story overall in the final gallery.
Golden Hour Bliss
One of my favourite moments from the day came during the golden hour—a magical time just before sunset when the light is soft and golden. At Rockbeare Manor, with its sweeping views of the Devon countryside, the golden hour becomes even more special. Lucy, Don & I snuck away from the reception for a quiet moment in the gardens, where I captured some of my favourite images of the day. The golden hues bathed them in warmth, creating photos that feel both romantic and timeless.
A Day Filled with Joy
What really made this wedding stand out was the overwhelming sense of joy and love that filled every moment. From the laughter during the speeches to a bridal party that brought all the vibes for Lucy and Don, we even did the most kick-ass vogue worthy group shot! (take a look below!)
